Why Women Shouldn't Be Driving a.k.a P.S. I Love You...Not!

Image
I was able to come across a blog and was able to read this letter. I must admit, I did love the P.S. part of the letter. To my darling husband, Before you return from your business trip, I just want to let you know about the small accident I had with the pick up truck when I turned into the driveway. Fortunately, not too bad and I really didn't get hurt, so please don't worry too much about me. I was coming home from Wal-Mart, and when I turned into the driveway, I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake. The garage door is slightly bent but the pick up fortunately came to a halt when it bumped into your car. I am really sorry, but I know with your kind-hearted personality you will forgive me. You know how much I love you and care for you my sweetheart. I am enclosing a picture for you. I cannot wait to hold you in my arms again. Your loving wife. XXX P.S. Your girlfriend called

Mafia Wars: Cheats and Hacks

Image
I got hooked to this new craze in facebook, the Mafia Wars game. It is more of a role-play game and the objective is to dominate New York City, becoming the topdog Mafia. And just like any other internet-based game, Mafia Wars is not spared from cheats and hacks as well. In fact, there are many forums in the internet discussing and sharing cheats, tips, strategies and hacks on how to find your way to the top of the Mafia Family. Basically, you can find your way to the top by doing: crime jobs, which is actually the best way to earn experience points and cash; fight, where you can knock out other Mafia players and win cash and experience (but you might lose your health points as well). Everytime you level up, you replenish your Stamina, Energy and Health points plus you also earn some extra points you can add to your profile. Stamina is required for you to fight longer. Energy is required for you to perform more jobs. Of course, you need your health to survive. And it is really a surviv...

CME is in Clark, Pampanga

Image
Doctors to the Barrios' 23rd Edition will be graduating in Oxford Hotel, Clark, Pampanga on October 14, 2009. This is according to the latest text message from the DTTB Coordinators in HHRDB-DOH Central Office. The CME of DTTB's (including PHM's) will start on October 5-15, 2009. According to information, transportation will be provided for those travelling from Manila to Clark on the 5th of October. For Batch 23, also known as ABYAN KA ( Alay sa Bayan, Yaman ng Kalusugan ), the advise is to finish all the LGU and Regional clearances before going to Manila and to also bring all the "exit papers" for our DOH clearances to be signed. Exit papers include situational analysis, community diagnosis, accomplishment report, annual health plan, etc. Of course, need I remind the batch to prepare for the gallery presentation. According to the agreement last CME in Tagaytay, the attire for the graduation will be Barong Tagalog for the boys and formal gown for the ladies. I wa...

Fighting Against T.B.: Pirma Kontra TB

Image
The third week of August was spent visiting barangays conducting TB awareness among the community. One of the things I have been struggling together with our RHU staff is the Waterloo of a low TB Case detection rate. While we don't have a death caused by TB (yet), we cannot help but think of the undetected walking TB cases who might continue to spread the disease. We decided to conduct a week-long Barangay TB Forum instead of a one-day TB caravan so that we can spread the word about TB even beyond the limits of the Poblacion area. We conducted the TB Forum in Barangays Cabia-an, Haba and West. These are the top 3 barangays when it comes to cases of TB (with Barangay Haba leading the three). But that does not mean that the other barangays don't have cases of TB. Like I said, the case detection rate is generally low. Now that our TB DOTS center is Philhealth accredited, we are more motivated to seek out symptomatic cases and enroll them in our TB DOTS center. The TB Forum would s...

Anti-Smoking Campaign

Image
It was almost like a campus tour. We started our Anti-smoking Drive at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, attended by the entire student body from the first year to the fourth year high school students, including their teachers and school principal. It was a fun activity, and the students were very participative, asking relevant questions about smoking and how to quit smoking or avoid being enticed to smoke. The Anti-smoking campaign was originally intended for 3rd year and 4th year students but the school principal wanted to include the 1st year and 2nd year students because of the perception that there are younger students who are learning to smoke. It was really a productive affair, with the teachers and students committing on conducting a school drive against smoking. This morning, we went to two schools: Quirico G. Manzano Memorial National High School and Caningay Main National High School. Due to limited space, QGMMNHS only catered to the 3rd year and 4th year students. Caningay h...

Questioning The Presidentiables' Health Agenda

Image
I received an email tonight asking HLMP fellows to send in questions to the Presidentiables regarding queries on their health agenda. I have decided to post some of my questions to them here in my blog. Any one of them can choose a question to answer. Maybe some of the readers of my blog has answers to these questions as well. 1) There are some who believe that the Devolution of Health has done more harm than good. What is your stand on the proposal of re-centralization of our health system? Why? 2) Until now, some LGUs have yet to fully implement the Magna Carta for Public Health Workers. As potential President, what can you do that will ensure that all LGUs will be able to implement the Magna Carta for Public health workers? 3) What is your stand on the Cheaper Medicines Act? 4) What is your stand on the present Reproductive Health Bill? Will your administration push for the implementation of Population Control through artificial means? 5) Currently, the Department of Health has a pr...

August Should Be Patriotism Month

Image
August 1, 1944 is the death anniversary of the great patriot Manuel Quezon. August 1, 2009 is the death anniversary of the Philippine Saint of Democracy Corazon Aquino. August 21, 1983 is the death anniversary of the modern day hero Benigno Aquino. August 31 is the anniversary of the Cry of Pugadlawin led by the great Plebian Andres Bonifacio. Don't you think it is high time August should be officially declared as the National Month of Patriotism?

Monitored: And The Countdown Begins

Image
Last August 19, two doctors from the Department of Health, one coming from the Center for Health Development Region 6 and one from the Central Office - Health Human Resource and Development Bureau (HHRDB), visited me in my area, as part of the monitoring procedure conducted among the outgoing Doctors to the Barrios. My contract shall end on October 2009 and according to latest information (still to be confirmed though), the next CME (which is going to be my final CME) will be at Clark, Pampanga. I have never been to Clark and it is going to be my first time in Pampanga. I was hoping that the final CME will be in Bohol, because it is nearer and therefore more convenient to bring my "stuff" for the traditional gallery presentation. Anyway, the two doctors, one of whom is a former DTTB herself, met with my staff at around 5 pm already, since they had to drop by Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital to also monitor the N.A.R.S. volunteers currently assigned in the district hospital ...

Harry Potter Audio Books

Image
For J.K. Rowling fans, being read with stories of Harry Potter is definitely heaven. The latest Harry Potter film was also by the way another hit. Let me recall the list of Harry Potter films already made: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince The final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will also be (crossing my fingers) made into a film, the last of the long line of Harry Potter movies.

Cake Designs

Image
Somebody's birthday is coming up (wink wink) and so we did some early window shopping for cakes. We went inside this store filled with lots of fancy cake designs.

Ninoy Aquino Day

Ninoy Aquino is truly this generation's Jose Rizal. He is a Filipino Hero. A video-excerpt from Ninoy's famous speech in Los Angeles. We celebrate the man whose death inspired the Filipinos to live up to their hard-earned freedom.

My Personal Wishlist

Image
In celebration of my second year anniversary as a medical doctor, I am publishing my wishlist for the year. Note that this is just a wishlist and although I do hope all wishes can come true, this list is really more of a hopeful wishing list. 1. I have always wanted a Sony Digital Camera, particulary the Cybershot DSC H20 model . It has intelligent Auto mode, with a 3.0" LCD screen and a 10x optical zoom. It has double anti-blur technology and HD movie recording capability. I am not sure whether this is the latest model but should I start my photography hobby, this one is a nice start. 2. I would love to own a Macbook . The first time I saw one I was really attracted like ants are to a pool of a diabetic's urine. All Macbooks come with integrated iSight, mini-DVI, AirPort Extreme, MagSafe power connector, upgradeable 512 MB (2x256) RAM, Bluetooth, built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet, Sudden Motion Sensor and Scrolling TrackPad, as well as an Apple Remote. 3. An iPhone...

The Missing Dollar

Image
Three men had lunch and paid 30$ for the lunch (10$ each). Before they could leave, the waiter told them their lunch was only worth 25$. So, he returned to them the 5$. From the 5$, the waiter took 2$ as tip and returned 1$ to each person. Which means, instead of paying 10$ each for the lunch, they basically paid only 9$. So, 9$ x 3 = 27$. 27$ plus the 2$ taken by the waiter = 29$ only. Where did the 1$ go? You can leave your answer here or you can answer at yahoo.answers.com . http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=An4ERt.umUJ7oPNiak7XOL_WxQt.;_ylv=3?qid=20090813204706AACuvXC

48th Town Anniversary of Candoni (and the morning after)

Image
August 12, 2009 marked the 48th Town Anniversary of the Municipality of Candoni. It is my 2nd town anniversary celebration. During the Mass, the entire town was surprised when Mayor Cicero Borromeo made an appearance for the first time in public. The son of the town's Founder, despite his illness, made an effort to come to the celebration of the town's anniversary. He had cerebellar infarct a few months ago and the family and his supporters persevered in prayer. He arrived being pushed on his wheelchair by his nurses and family members. When friends and supporters greeted him, he could not control his tears, and so did those who greeted him. It was an emotional moment for the entire town who came to the Poblacion to celebrate the anniversary. I was able to greet the Mayor personally just this morning before I attended the South Negros Interlocal Health Zone meeting, hosted by the municipality. I went to the Mayor's Office and saw him seated, still unable to talk due to his ...
