Jetsetting: Glimpse of Things To Come?

Image
I am currently in an internet cafe along La Salle Avenue. I am waiting for the last trip to Cebu City. Yes, I am on my way once more to Cebu City to claim once and for all my PRC license and certificate. I will be taking the bus which is estimated to reach Cebu at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow Monday. I will be having a quick breakfast, then proceed to PRC Office, where I hope I could get my PRC card within an hour. I will then travel to Mactan International Airport to catch a flight bound for Manila. Yes, tomorrow, I will be leaving for Manila from Cebu. I haven't been to Manila for a long time. The last time was when I went to Australia in 1997. During college though we had to drop by Manila for a flight connection from Davao, on the way home to Bacolod, but we hardly left the Domestic Airport. I was doing some work for the CD-team of the yearbook. I am going to Manila because I am about to take the exams for the Doctor to the barrio program of the Department of Health. I submitted my requi...

Image
I am into a few simple projects the past few days. I am hosting a Hall of Famed Blogs, courtesy of Squidoo.com . Do you wish to promote your blog and increase your traffic? Be part of the hall of famed blogs. Click on this link here to check out the rules. It has just opened so nominations are now accepted. Another project is the Blog 4 Burma. Considering the horrifying events occuring in Burma today, I have decided to put up a blog for the Burmese people and I am encouraging other bloggers to do the same. The Blog 4 Burma post is in my macellarius blog . This aim really is to increase awareness and provide a platform for our Burmese friends who cannot blog from inside Myanmar due to constraints implemented by their wicked government. It is my only way of support for Burma and its Burmese people. Anyway, the rain has stopped and the sun is out but according to the news, the weather will turn ugly by the next few days. Some tropical depressions are spotted east of the country, which me...

How To Earn Money Through Blogs

Image
Blogging has become not just fun but also profitable. By simply maintaing a blog and attracting attention from readers, you can get paid. There are many sites out there wishing to pay you for your blog. They vary from paying you to post a blog about something or by simply hosting their advertisements in your blog. Here's a list of my recommended sites: 1. GoogleAdsense - many bloggers highly recommend this site. You can choose whether to receive your payment through check or paypal. All you need is to register and paste the html code on your blog's layout and customize the advertisements you want to appear in your blog. 2. Payperpost.com - it pays you for every post you make. You can choose from the various topics posted in the dashboard of your payperpost account and follow the specific instructions. You receive your payment through paypal. 3. TextLinks Ad. Inc . - like google adsense, it pays you for every advertisement you can get to host in your blog. You need your blog t...

Scarred People Are Beautiful

Image
(I read a blog entry of an old high school friend and I had to write this "response") How I wish God, at the time of our birth, has provided us with a manual on how to go about life. This God-given gift called life is a complicated gadget. It is unpredictable, most often goes beyond human control. It is almost impossible. It can be unfair. It never goes your way. It is trained to give joy as well as hurt people. Wise men say it is all a test. If it is, then it is a test made for no one to pass. The questions were made so as not to have answers. Even if they are easy, the hard part is finding the solutions. But perhaps more complicated than life is love. How I wish God, at the time of our birth, has provided us the genes to love. This God-given virtue is never intended for men to use. Only those that can claim divinity can love. Not humans. We sing about it. We make movies about it. We read it on paperbacks. We write it on scented papers. But in truth, we hardly have a clue ab...

Quo Vadis, Doc?

Last September 20, I went to Cebu to take my oath as a professional medical doctor. I took three oaths: the oath of professionalism, the oath of hippocrates and oath of membership to the Philippine Medical Association. Unfortunately, I still haven't received my PRC certificate and my PRC number. I registered as early as Augusut 28 but only 50 of those who attended the oath taking in Cebu received their certificates and license numbers. We were 133 all in all. Five of those who took their oaths were from USLS: me, Ken, Mary Ann, Bam, and April. The oathtaking was held at the luxurious Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City. I did not stay long in Cebu. I was barely 24 hours in the city. I immediately went back to Bacolod during the wee hours of the morning. The oathtaking was my deadline. A self-imposed deadline. Where to now, Bien? The long journey towards a personal destiny begins. Which destiny to choose, I am not yet certain. For one, I have to consider my family. In all of my dec...

Where's Beany?

Find the man among the coffee beans. There are interpretations as to the speed of your finding the man. It is said that if you find the man in 3 seconds, your right brain is functioning more than most people. If you find the man between 1 min to 3 mins, then your right brain is working normally. If you find the man more than 3 mins, well, you may need to sharpen your right brain a bit. If you can't really find the man...then, I rest my case.

What Now?

Next week, I will be taking my oath as a medical doctor. Fellow neophytes in the medical field sent an SMS yesterday asking me if I could be the master of ceremonies for the oathtaking. I said it would be an honor to be the master of ceremonies for the oathtaking and I would gladly welcome the job. "Daw kadasig lang, no?" (Everything's so fast, right?) More than a year ago I was just a poor clerk trying to kiss my consultants' and residents' asses, some of whom had larger asses to kiss. The experience was definitely humiliating, draining, burdening, but at times uplifting and worth-remembering. There was no way to get to where I am now except through those experiences. While it is only human to repress the worse experiences, it is not always that bad. There were best moments, too. And usually the best and funniest moments during my clerkship were moments with fellow clerks. Now, I am a medical doctor, a neophyte like what I said, and I don't know what to do. I...

For OFWs, Here's Free 8$ worth of International Calls!

Image
Due to the immigration explosion, many filipino families now have at least one family member who works abroad or is already an immigrant in other countries, particularly the U.S., Canada or Europe. And since Filipinos pride themselves with strong family ties, communication is very essential. Phone bills can be very expensive that is why families left in the Philippines or even overseas workers who wish to call their loved ones in the Philippines would tend to find a cheap way of calling each other. I have come over this wonderful site that can perhaps cater to Filipinos in diaspora or to anyone around the world who wish to make international calls, at the cheapest price possible! Pingo.com "provides consumers and business customers prepaid calling service designed to deliver the best calling card experience, including quality, convenience, and customer service at the most competitive rates available today." Pingo is a service of iBasis, which is actually one of the largest c...

Thanksgiving Dinner a la Mini-Family Reunion

Image
It is great when the family comes for dinner. In my case, it is truly a meeting of more than two worlds. I come from a large family and when I got married, this large family just got larger. Last September 8, I hosted a thanksgiving dinner exclusively for family and very close friends. Coincidentally, that day was also Sept 8, Mother Mary's Birthday. The original plan was to have a thanksgiving mass at the restaurant but the priest I contacted and recommended by Miss Boogie told me that there's a new ruling now in the Church with regards to that sort: they are no longer allowed to hold masses outside a chapel or a church. So, what I did was come up with a thanksgiving prayer service, just a simple prayer service, to emphasize that the thanksgiving and gratitude were all due to the Lord. That morning, for the first time, it rained so hard my son and I enjoyed a nice bath under the rain. We took it as a visible sign of Mary's blessing for me and my family; not to mention the ...

My Son the Native Dancer

Image
Last August 30 I attended a "Linngo ng Lahi" culminative activity in my son's school. My aunt, Master teacher Manuela Guimbal, was the guest speaker for the said occasion. As expected, I was the self-appointed photographer for my son. I never consider myself as a stage father but it does make me feel proud to see my son do well on stage. He is now a prep student and has improved so much. Of course, the entire family was there to watch my son. Even his baby sister was around to watch him dance. The activity ended with snacks composed of the expected native foods. This morning, I went to USLS to do some psych testing, a prerequisite for the college of nursing. Nope, I did not enroll for a nursing course. I applied for the faculty in the college of Nursing. I also applied for the faculty of the college of Arts and Sciences but so far, only the College of Nursing responded. I also applied for a teaching load at Riverside College and personally handed my application to Mrs. St...
