This Blog is ON VACATION

Image
The Freudian Slip and The Macellarius Est take a breather indefinitely. Blogger decides to keep every thought in his mind instead of writing them down in these blogs. This is a temporary leave and although it is indefinite, it is not forever. However, blogger will still monitor any comments or reactions left by readers in any of the posts. He may from time to time even respond to these reactions. See you on the other side. Type rest of the post here

The Philippine Health Care System

Image
(This essay was in response to an invitation to write to TBR 6th ed .) The Philippine healthcare system is a tricky machinery which no Philippine Government in its young history has ever mastered. At present, the entire system is suffering both from its inherent flaws and external threats. Perhaps the greatest challenge the Philippine healthcare system has ever faced is its mass exodus of medical professionals. Never before has the Filipino society ever encountered doctors leaving for abroad, nurses abandoning posts for greener pastures and even midwives leaving the rural and countryside for better opportunities in the urbanized society. The brain drain that is affecting the Philippines has, first of all, affected the very heart of its society: health. For what can a country do if it is loaded with sick people? A lot of these mentally sick people are cohorted in the government itself. The poor are being neglected and are deliberately made to remain poor so that they will be cheap enoug...

AMHOP Convention Culminates

Image
The 3-day AMHOP convention in Bohol has just concluded. Recap: April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor, was the opening day of the Convention. A total of more than 500 MHOs and Affiliates were in attendance. Among those from Negros Occidental were Dra. Abella of Hinoba-an, Dra. Vidal and Dra. de los Reyes of Cauayan, Doc Raymond of Murcia and me of Candoni. The opening day was a blur, with 2 opening salvo lectures on medico-legal and Dengue updates. The afternoon was spent with a General Assembly Meeting of all members of AMHOP. The fellowship night was at JJ's seafood resto. April 10, day of lectures, varying from latest updates on health managements to latest trends in public health. Various MHOs also shared their success stories with regards to approaches in various health programs. April 11 was kind of low-key, with keynote lecturer Dr. Sabili, PMA president, tackling the challenges facing the MHO or any government physician for that matter. Of course, one of the many conce...

Health Success Stories

There is miracle in a can of milk. This is what I have learned when I happened to answer a "trivial" add in a local paper. The person who posted the ad perhaps made it sure that such "trivial" add will catch anyone's attention. It did catch mine. It was an invitation, whether or not one would like to earn as much as 100,000 pesos a month. Who wouldn't? When I did answer the ad, I discovered that the advertiser was actually a businessman married to a Pediatrician based in Bacolod, both of whom have been into the Reliv International business for almost 2 and a half years now. In the span of 30 months time, they told me during our dinner meeting the week after we started communicating through phone, they have already earned a total of 4.5 million pesos. The doctor has a successful practice in Bacolod as a pediatrician and she is not the only doctor who is into the business. She introduced me to other doctors also who have been enjoying both the financial and he...

Shoutout from Tarsier Land

Image
I am currently blogging from Tagbilaran, Bohol. I am here until Saturday for the Annual AMHOP conventions. This is my first time in the land of Tarsiers, of Chocolate Hills and the Sandugo. I came here via Cebu. I took the plane, rode on a taxi to the pier, rode a fastcraft bound for Tagbilaran and rode a tricycle to my pension house. Whlie in the fastcraft, I happened to sit beside a doctor who was also attending the AMHOP. He's the MHO of Boracay, Aklan. We talked during the 1 and half hour trip. He already had 3 kids and he was already 28 years in the service. When we reached Tagbilaran we realized all the pension houses were booked, except of course the expensive hotels. Good thing I had my reservations many weeks before. So, after I checked in, I went out to see the sights of the City. I went to the BQ Mall, one of their popular malls here. Anyway, I had to find an internet cafe to blog so I went around and found a street all lined up with internet cafes. After this blog I am ...

Snip Tuck

Image
For a change, I did some circumcision with 9 kids last Thursday. There were a total of 11 boys who came to the RHU to had theirs "snipped". I circumcised 9 of them. The other 2 I gave to my Nurse-2 to circumcise. I also taught some of my nurses to suture for them to learn how to circumcise. Round 2 Circumcision is tentatively scheduled on the 29th of April. Why the wait? I am a busy man for April. I will be attending the AMHOP convention next week in Tagbilaran. The following week will be Garantisadong Pambata week. The Thursday of that week will be a consultative meeting at the Provincial Health Office. If the Mayor will allow me, I will be attending the PAGPI convention this 23-24th of April in Boracay. The Monday of that week, I will be in Iloilo delivering my accomplishment report during the Monday Conference with the Regional Director. As of the moment, I am currently editing the Newsletter of Batch 23 DTTB which will be released sometime in May, just in time for our fir...
