Ask Not What Candoni Can Do For You, But What You Can Do for Candoni

Image
That is not a tongue twister. But I had to make a JFK speech last Staff Meeting because my job orders are getting frustrated. It seems that after endless lobbying with the people upstairs, out of the 13 job orders I recommended to be promoted to casual employees, the RHU was given only 1 slot out of 15 available slots. And to make matters worse, the LGU has decided to slash the number of job order employees of the municipality, down to only 21 job orders. This whole chaos started when I was out of the office last week, when I attended our regular meeting at Iloilo and our TMC meeting in Kabankalan. It was decided that due to constrained funds, the LGU had no choice but to streamline its employees, particularly the casuals and job orders. I received a text from one of my J.O.'s informing me that only 1 slot was given for RHU and that there was even a possibility of some JO's being slashed. So, instead of going to Nava, Brgy. Agboy last Tuesday (one of the most far flung barangay...

Candoni's Best Cited

Image
During the last South Negros Interlocal Heath Zone Technical Management Committee meeting in Kabankalan District Hospital, the TMC, of which I am a member due to my position as MHO of Candoni RHU, has decided to launch a search for outstanding Barangay Midwife, Public Health Nurse, Doctor and LGU in the interlocal health zone when it comes to Health. My DOH Representative, Mrs. Manzano, informed the committee that even before this proposal was conceptualized, Candoni's RHU has already started its own. I was given the floor to introduce my brain child, Candoni's Best: The search for most outstanding Barangay Health Station, Barangay Midwife, Barangay Health Worker and Barangay Council. Mrs. Manzano produced a copy of the rationale of the project which I wrote and the Assessment Score Sheet which bears the basis of judging our nominees. The concept of Candoni's Best was lauded by all those present, including Dr. Ayala, CHO of Kabankalan and Dra. Abella, MHO of Hinobaan. The t...

Healthy Hearts Are Happy Hearts

As promised, here are a few snapshots of the Opening Ceremonies of the Heart Month Celebrations of Candoni Rural Health Unit .

Heart Month: Saving One Heart At A Time

Image
My own heart is overwhelmed as of this moment. When I was planning with my staff to go all the way in our celebration for the heart month this February, I was not feeling optimistic at first. There was little time and not enough resources to celebrate the Department of Health's Cardiovascular Diseases Prevention Month, better known as Heart Month. But I underestimated the creativity and enthusiasm of my staff, not to mention of the whole Local Government Unit. This morning, despite the imminent threat of heavy rains, we held our quarter-of-a-kilometer long caravan from Barangay Caningay to Barangay Haba and all the way to Barangay Banga. Everyone was out of the streets, with jackets and caps, to protect themselves from the cold weather. The Mayor, Celot Borromeo, was wearing his own red jacket, riding his private car giving out cut-out hearts with health tips for the bystanders. The roads of Candoni were awakened by barangay health workers, municipal councilors, nurses and even bar...

The Opportunity To Prove Them Wrong

Image
To my friends and batchmates who will take the upcoming medical board exams This February 10 and 11, 2008, bear in mind that my family and I are with you in our prayers. It is yet another defining moment for all of you; another opportunity to prove yourselves has arrived. This opportunity must be regarded as God-given. For when we ask for patience, doesn't He provide us with opportunities to be patient? For when we ask for courage, doesn't He provide us with opportunities to be brave? For He is a God who gives graces through opportunities. Now, in answer to your prayers of becoming a full-pledge doctor, He has given you once again another opportunity to be so. For some of you, this is the first time you will take the board exams and the fear of the unknown is seemingly incurable. I remember the instance when I felt pessimistic about the outcome of my exams even days before I was about to take them. I never expected to survive the ordeal. I could barely survive my self-doubt. To...
