Youtube Highlights of 2013

In less than 2 days now, we will say goodbye to the current year and welcome 2014 with a bang. 2013 has been another memorable year: with many unforgettable moments from the worst to the best. Many of these memories have been captured and uploaded in Youtube. Each one may have his or her own list of favorite and memorable Youtube videos for 2013. Here's mine:

The historic win of the Philippine National Basketball team over South Korea during the FIBA Asia Championships earned for them a ticket to the World Championships which will be held in Spain this 2014. The Philippines won a Silver Medal for FIBA Asia 2013.

For Miley Cyrus, 2013 is a year of reinventing herself. When she made the talked-about "twerking" and released her racy Wrecking Ball music video, many came out with their own spoof of the the-baby-is-now-a-lady Miley Cyrus MTV. The most popular spoof is the notorious Steve Kardynal's version.

Also known as the Banyan-gate scandal, the son of the Philippine Vice President and current Mayor of the city of Makati was caught on CCTV with his entourage forcing their way through a closed gate of a subdivision, even at some point, showing some intimidating tactics against the subdivision's security guards. The Vice President justified the actions of his son saying that he saw nothing wrong with what he did.

Time's Person of the Year truly is a remarkable figure not just in the Catholic Church but on the world stage as well. Pope Francis has many memorable moments since he was elected on March 13, 2013. In this video, a young boy never left Pope Francis' side throughout the event in the Vatican, even when he was bribed with candy by some of the Pope's guards. The Pope didn't seem to mind his little companion. He even made him sit in his Papal Chair.

When CNN's Anderson Cooper challenged ABS-CBN's Korina Sanchez to go to Tacloban and see for herself the devastation of Super Typhoon Haiyan (a.k.a Yolanda), this video clip just has to be one of those memorable moments for 2013.

In a related video, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, who happens to be Korina Sanchez's husband, is shown in a video being interviewed by CNN's Andrew Stevens, trying to explain to the public why the protracted disaster response of the Philippine government to the needs of the victims and survivors of the Super Typhoon.

Ending on a high note, 2013 will also be remembered by Filipinos as the year for Filipina beauty. The Philippines won 3 International beauty titles: Miss Supranational, Miss World and Miss International. The Philippines also found itself once again in the top 5 of Miss Universe, eventually winning 3rd runner up.

And oh yes, before we end the year, maybe it's time to do one last Harlem Shake

Happy New Year everyone!
