In Times Like This, We Need Madea
It seems nobody's giving good advice to our government leaders lately. The many foul ups they have been committing are directly and indirectly affecting the entire country. Well, if I were president and if I was given the chance to choose an adviser, I would choose this old lady who calls herself Madea. Madea is a tough cookie who speaks her mind and has this uncanny way of making profound things seem pragmatic. Sometimes the advice she would give would even make people uncomfortable, would shake them to their core, but once you step back and allow it to settle, you would then try to understand the meaning of her words and say, "It actually makes sense." Unfortunately, Madea is not a real person. She is just the creation of Tyler Perry who actually plays the role. The Madea series started as a stage play which gained popularity and had movie versions of her stories.
One particularly favorite is Madea's Big Happy Family. The story is simple to follow but the advice are very practical, not to mention the outstanding musical voices.

A few months ago, I had my medical students watch this movie in relation to family and what they go through when one of the members of the family is ill or sick (family illness trajectory). I am planning to show this to my other class as well this January.
Here's one of my favorite songs sang in Madea's Big Happy Family:
Here's another funny advice from Madea:
Now, I wonder what it would be like if we have this woman in the Cabinet or even as President.
