God Has Better Plans...Always
I read once an old story about how God works in mysterious ways and why He always has a better plan for all of us. When I think about my friends who did not make it, I remembered this old story. I want to share it with anyone out there who feels as if God and the Universe are coniving against him or her.
The story is about two angels who went to earth and mingled with humans. During their trip, they were caught up by the rain so they knocked on the house of a rich old man. The disguised angels knocked on the front door and the old rich man, who was cruel and unkind, opened the door. They asked if they could stay for the night. The old rich man allowed them to stay but instead of leading them to one of his many guest rooms, he led them to the basement and told them they could stay there for the night. With no pillows, no light nor bed, the two angels slept in the basement. In the middle of the night, the younger angel woke up and saw the older angel fixing up something on the wall of the basement.
The young angel asked what he was doing and the older angel said he was trying to fix a hole on the wall of the rich man's basement. Confused, the younger angel went back to sleep. The next day, the two angels left the rich man's place and went on their trip. That evening, they were once again caught up with the rain and so they had to find another place to stay. They came upon a humble nipa hut which belonged to a very poor couple. They were so poor that their only property was the house and a skinny cow. They knocked on the door and asked if they could stay for the night. The old couple gladly took them in, offered them even some hot soup and told them that they could stay in their bed while the old couple would sleep on the mat on the floor. The following morning, the two angels woke up and the younger angel noticed that the old couple were crying. They just found out that their skinny cow died last night.
The two angels left and while walking the younger angel could no longer contain his feelings and rebuked the older angel. "I cannot understand," he said. "The rich man was cruel to us but you fixed his wall in the basement. The poor couple was kind and hospitable to us but you did not even stop the angel of death from killing their cow. What gives?"
The older angel replied, "I fixed the rich man's wall because when I noticed the hole in the wall, I realized that there was billions of gold bars hidden inside the hole. I did not want the rich man to know about the gold so I covered the hole and fixed it. As with the poor couple, I was told that the Angel of Death would come that night to kill and take the poor wife, so instead of taking the wife, I let him took the cow instead."
