Spiderman

I took a break from yesterday's review classes and went to the movies with my wife and kids. We went to watched Spiderman 3, perhaps the last film in this Spiderman trilogy. In my opinion, this is perhaps the best Spiderman film yet.

As expected, the film has displayed awesome fight scenes, but I particularly loved the fight scene between the archrival Spiderman and Venom. The final fight scene, where everyone is gathered in the battle between good and evil, was perhaps the ultimate climax in the Spiderman story of our contemporary times. The final battle ended with everyone having to sacrifice something. Harry, The Goblin, sacrificed his life for his friend Peter. Erick, Venom, sacrificed his life for power and hate. The Sandman sacrificed his hate for better options in life. Peter too sacrificed his vengeance in exchange for forgiveness for the killer of his uncle. In making one's sacrifice, it solely depends on the individual's freedom of choice. What to sacrifice?

Perhaps the best "fight scene" in this movie was between Peter and himself, his struggle against his desire to avenge his uncle's death and his struggle to part or attach himself to that "black thing" that turns his character into something else, something aggressive, something "nice". In the movie, Aunt Mae told Peter, "Uncle Ben wouldn't want us living with revenge in our heart. It can overtake us and turn us into something ugly."

Wrote Walter Chaw in his critique, "Where the second film closed with the promise of Peter's successful matriculation into adulthood in a place of his own, with a girl at his side and wedding bells on the soundtrack, this picture, like the first, concludes at a cemetery in the rain. The church bell in Spider-Man 3, following a terse exchange in which a changed Parker advises a romantic adversary that if he's looking for forgiveness, "find religion," takes centre stage in a belfry as Parker undergoes another of the picture's deaths and rebirths. And it predicts yet another transformation (Harry's) in a long baptismal shower."

Spiderman 3 has made Spiderman more than just a superhero. He has made him a Man-turned-hero not because of his special powers or abilities alone, but by the strength of his heart. I love this movie. Better than Superman and Batman films combined.
