Baguio In Negros: Don Salvador Benedicto
When one is visiting Negros Occidental, one must not forget to drop by Don Salvador Benedicto, a 4th class municipality located between the town of Murcia and the city of San Carlos. Don Salvador Benedicto, or DSB, is also known as the Summer Capital of Negros Occidental. Located on the hilly top on the side of Mt. Canlandog, DSB boasts of its green rural scenery and cool climate.
Tourists who are traveling from Bacolod City to Cebu City can go via DSB and then catch the ferry in San Carlos City. Along the way, there are certain landmarks tourists can stop by and have their pictures taken.
There is a look-out point where tourists can see the breathtaking view of the Malatan-og Falls.
The road to DSB is lined with pine trees giving it a "Baguio-esque" feel.
Another more recent landmark in DSB is the Lion's Look-out view. An image of a Lion and a small look-out platform was built by the Lion's Club, a socio-civic organization.
To go to Don Salvador Benedicto, one can take the bus at the South Terminal (along Lopez Jaena street). Take the same bus to go back to Bacolod City. You can also hire a van.
Don't forget to buy banana chips and bokayo, or coconut candy, as pasalubong for friends. Their market day is Thursday.
My special thanks to Mayor Lawrence (Mayor of DSB) and Doc Jolly, municipal health officer of DSB, for their hospitality during my short visit in Don Salvador Benedicto.
