Seeking For Strength And Wisdom

Image
Let this prayer I came upon be my personal prayer for the moment: "Lord, give me strength and wisdom to live this day as I ought. Give me strength to overcome every temptation which may come to me, strength to do well every task which is assigned to me, strength to shoulder every responsibility which is laid upon my shoulders, Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to keep silent, wisdom to know when to act and when to refrain from action, wisdom to know when to speak my mind and when to hold my peace. So bring me to the end of this day in goodness, in happiness and in peace. Amen."

Surviving Hell Week

Image
The last week of February is Hell Week. Literally, the weather has been merciless and it hasn't rained for the past two months already. Physically, it is a toxic week. Hell Week started with a busy Monday, meeting the staff for the last-minute preparations for our Healthy lifestyle Culminating activity this Thursday. Preparations mean printing out of programs, sending out solicitation forms, coordinating with committee heads in charged of the various activities. It is toxic and sometimes I would tend to be irritated easily. As much as possible I would rely on humor to save me from doing things I would later hate myself for doing. This morning, we conducted an orientation with the representatives from Philippine Red Cross Negros Occidental Chapter regarding the services of PNRC. The orientation was attended by teachers, barangay captains, department heads, employees and officials of the town. The President of the Chapter himself, Mr. Garganera, was present to give the talk along wit...

Dinagyaw Sa Tablas 2010: Teaser Pictures

Image
I am currently editing the video clips I took during the Festivities at Candoni last February 11, 2010. For now I am posting teaser pictures of the Dinagyaw sa Tablas Festival. This is the 2nd year of a young festival celebration which is actually portraying the very history of this town. Dinagyaw means "Bayanihan" or Community Spirit. This is commemorating the exodus of Negrenses led by Santiago H. Diego and founded the town of Candoni, nestled in Tabla Valley. The pioneers were called Tablenios. Since then, the early settlers built roads and bridges and buildings without a single centavo from the Philippine government. It was through cooperation and unity that the early settlers were able to establish what is now a thriving municipality. As mentioned in my earlier blogs, I was able to make a suggestion during the working committee meeting for the Festival if the town can adopt a Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut as the Festival's icon. The symbol of a Nipa Hut being carried on the...

So Little Time, So Much Things To Do

Image
I can only ask from God enough time to do so many tasks. I need a break. I can see the danger signs already, telling me to slow down and take a moment to breathe. I do want to take a break. My body is as strong as my health would permit it. The past few days I have been down with the flu. I had to go home and take a well needed rest. The 24 hours a day 5 days a week mode of work is taking its toll. Yes, I am on duty 24 hours a day. My Rural Health Unit is open 24 hours a day. So even after office hours, I would still see patients who would come to visit the RHU either for late-night consultations (which I am trying to discourage already) or emergency cases. I am accompanied by my night-shift staff. There are times that there are no patients. There are times too that there are many emergency cases in just one night. Since I would sleep in the RHU (I do not have a private residence of my own), the night staff would usually wake me up to refer patients. When it comes to deliveries, my mid...
