Doing One's Duty
Last Friday, after my case presentation, we bid goodbye to JJ, a fellow PGI, who had to go home in Iloilo to attend to his duties as a son. Last week, he had to hurry home as well when he heard about the news that his dad had to be brought to the hospital for some work-up. When he came back to work, he brought some sad news. It seems that his dad's colonoscopy results were not that promising. The biopsy results are not due yet till Monday that is why JJ, the PGI with the "gonococcal smile", friend of everyone, had to rush home and be with his family, most of all with his dad. He had to leave indefinitely.
I am pretty sure JJ is reading this (and I told him to do so from time to time to keep in touch with the crazy lives of the PGIs) and I am confident that he knows how much we will miss him. Hang in there, JJ.
Too bad that sometimes, duties to one's family had to come first before duties towards your own dreams. When it comes to choosing between profession and family, there is no contest. Family first. At times though this makes me think that life can be unfair at times, especially to people who have high hopes and dreams for themselves but cannot pursue them just yet because of one's duty to family.
I know of a guy who is in love with this girl and surely the girl is in love with him but she is already arranged to get married with a guy whom she hasn't even met yet. She is bound to this arranged relationship and she cannot pursue the love of her life...due to her duties to family. Unfair? Totally. (But I did see his profile on the web, kid, and by a mile you are way more handsome than him. trust me!)
Life can be unfair at times. But who can defeat life? Not even Mr. Destiny himself can take control of his own course.
The ride is a roller coaster and it is definitely unending. One time you are way up there in the zenith of your life and another in the bottom of the pits. It sucks and it rocks. All you need to do is perhaps enjoy it while you can with friends, find time to smile in front of the camera, and even, for a just a brief moment, be happy.
