This year, the tradition I started continues with the first year medical students of USLS. Yesterday, all entries to the Cinemedicine 2013 have been accepted. They will have the entire week to campaign for their mini-movies and gain votes. The mini-movies intend to demonstrate the phases or stages any family would experience when someone is sick . When I had the opportunity to visit Florida, I was lucky to have stayed with my parents' friends who are now living in Florida. Of course, when I found out that I was heading there, what came to mind was really finding time to visit the famous beaches in this State. So, the day after I arrived, my hosts brought me to Clearwater Beach in Clearwater, Florida. Clearwater Beach is a resort facing the Gulf of Mexico. It has a wide stretch of white sandy beach. According to information, it has been ranked as one of the top 20 beaches in the U.S. There are many restaurants and bars along the beach. There are also a few street performers who would provide some random entertainment to tourists. What also caught my attention was the long fishing pier where you can walk over and see the ivory coastline dotted with sunbathers, beach-goers and tall buildings of nearby hotels. During my visit to Jakarta for the first U.S.-ASEAN Young Leaders Summit last December 2012, we stayed at the Royal Kuningan Hotel, a relatively new hotel in Jakarta. As soon as we arrived at the International Airport, we were headed straight to the Hotel and thanks to the infamous Jakarta Traffic, it took us around 3 hours to reach the hotel. It is newly opened and the immediate surrounding area wasn't really fit for a "royal" structure. I am expecting though that in the near future, more establishments and improvements will be sprouting in the vicinity. The hotel lobby was not as huge as I would have expected considering that the view of the hotel from outside made that impression. Or perhaps the 130 delegates who were crowding before the reception area waiting for their room keys made the lobby look small. All of us were given twin suites and our rooms were really comfortable. 2012 has been a year of exciting and challenging milestones in my life, both personally and professionally. It was the year when I managed to travel around the country (and even did one stop-over outside of Pinas) and connect with as many people as I could, thanks to my new job as one of the program associates in Zuellig Family Foundation.      During my visit to Jakarta early this month, we were treated to a night of cultural performances from our Indonesian hosts. We were in Jakarta to represent the Philippines in the first ever US-ASEAN Young Leaders Summit, organized by the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, together with the US Mission to ASEAN. During the Opening Dinner Ceremonies held at Royal Kuningan Hotel, we witnessed this amazing Indonesian Dance called the Saman Dance.  Indonesian Students doing the Saman Dance      It is such a beautiful dance and very mesmerizing considering how fast the hands of the dancers were moving throughout the dance. Every Christmas season, people would visit Baguio City to enjoy it's subzero-degrees environment. It is not only the Summer Capital of the Philippines but it is also a Winter-getaway for many. Even the President of the Republic would also spend the Holidays in Baguio. If the American President has Camp David, then the Filipino Head of State has The Mansion House. The Mansion House was built in the early 1900's as a residence for US Governor-Generals during the time the Philippines was under the American government. Wikipedia would describe the place as consisting of "an elegantly-designed Spanish Colonial Revival main building and a guest house. The elaborate main gate, made of ornate ironwork, was earlier reported as a replica of one of the main gates at Buckingham Palace in London, which is false.
