This is totally hilarious. Thanks doc Harry for sharing me this one. Note: I am blogging from Palmas del Mar with my new "best friend". His name is Acer. Also, I am a very proud father yesterday. My son graduated from kindergarten and he was the first honor in his class. He was also best in English, Spelling and Reading, not to mention recipient of other non-academic awards.

Pasta and Easter

Image
I make it a point to celebrate Easter Sunday, whether it would be pomp or discreet. This year was no exception. During Maundy Thursday I had my grocery rush, bought me the ingredients to my favourite dish in the world: spaghetti. Since the day I learned how to cook pasta, I was experimenting with different kinds of spaghetti sauce. Last Thursday, I decided to make it simple. So I bought only half a kilo of pasta, 3/4 kilo of sweet Spaghetti sauce, a can of mushrooms and spaghetti meat sauce, a can of beef sausages, butter, onions, garlic and mozarella cheese. It was my first time to use mozarella cheese and I am not even sure if I am spelling it correctly as of the moment. Anyway, during Easter morning, after having set-up our plastic pool in the yard and filled it with water for my kids to play with, I cooked away in the kitchen. I only had an hour to do so since we had to prepare for the 10 a.m. mass. For those who don't know how to cook spaghetti, it is really very very simple. ...

Holy Week Reflections

(I edited this presentation for my batch's graduation ball last 2006. The song is from the movie Prince of Egypt) Happy easter in advance.

Looking Back, Looking Sideways and Looking Forward

Image
That's what I told the graduating students of my alma mater, USLS-IS, last week during their pre-graduation retreat. It was a moment for them to look back, look sideways and look forward. The looking back can be fun. Remembering people and places in the past is not only an exercise in memory, it is another moment of playtime in our secret chamber of memories. Fun memories. It can be sad. The sadness is brought about by the fact that it is only a visit to the realm of imagination. For others, it can be a scary experience, a re-enactment perhaps of bad and tragic experiences. But the invitation is to really stop, turn around and wave goodbye to the memories of old. I also told them to look sideways, to look around them and see the people of "here and now". For others, it can be difficult. Most of us live in a fast lane, riding on a speeding train with no time to even look out the window and enjoy the scenery outside. The invitation to look around keeps us grounded and allow...

Robie's First Year

Image
We had to celebrate her birthday. It was her first and she is our first baby girl. It was of course another opportunity to gather with friends. So, it was once again another successful party. The pictures are proofs of this memorable event. I have also attached a video of Robie's first Hataw Exercise.

Whirlwind

Image
I am into speedblogging now, which means I don't have enough time to sit down and write a lengthy blog. At least, not here in the Freudian Slip. Life has been like a whirlwind here as a doctor to the barrio. I am currently in Bacolod attending a retreat in USLS Balay Kalinungan. It is the pre-grad retreat of the Seniors of the USLS-IS and it is my tenth year as one of the facilitators. Before going back to Bacolod last Friday though, I played host to doctor-friends who went to Candoni for a supposed "medical mission". The real medical mission was cancelled, but Marc and Leah did went inside our twin caves in one of the mountains of Candoni. Both Marc and Leah are planning to become doctors to the barrios themselves. Sunday was my daughter's first birthday and threw a birthday party for family and friends. A few of my high school classmates were there. Many of my doctor batchmates were also there. Even Candoni's municipal treasurer was there, who happened to be my ...

Stranded in Kabankalan

Image
I was supposed to be back in my office in Candoni but the patient we referred to KDH due to Premature rupture of membranes had to be transported to Bacolod. KDH has no working OB-GYNE residents or consultants which means all OB-GYNE cases have to be referred to CLMMRH. And since KDH ambulance is expensive (800 pesos)and ours in Candoni is free (imagine that!), Candonians prefer using our own ambulance than Kabankalan's. So, while I was having my lunch in one of the malls in Kabankalan (there are only 2 actually and the other one isn't exactly a mall), our ambu driver texted me that he had to rush to Bacolod. So I am once again stranded here in Kabankalan. As of this time, the ambu is on its way here. So, the question now is, what to do in this sleepy city of Kabankalan? I took the opportunity to had our video of the Closing Ceremonies transfered to DVD so I went to a shop which caters to Wedding Videos and Photography and inquired how much would it cost me to have it done, and ...

Just Sharing...

While being stranded here in Kabankalan City waiting for my bus to Candoni, I have been surfing the youtube. For those who wish to download youtube videos but just can't, this link is very helpful. The Media Converter can do almost everything. Try it out. For the mean time, I am posting my boredom in this blog. A new month has arrived and I have yet to submit my DTR for February. My daughter's going to be 1 year old by next week and we are planning a birthday party for her. Anyway, short blogs for now. Longer ones, at the Macellarius .

The 1st RHU Mountain Marathon

Image
We ran and ran, through the fog, over the mountains, leaping over mudholes, along ricefields, over bridges, and finally catching our breaths at the finish line. Later, winners were proclaimed with the mayor himself calling out the names of the champions and giving out the trophies and grocery goods. It was the first Candoni RHU Mountain Marathon and while the time for planning was short, it was a resounding success. A total of 137 participants ran from Brgy. Haba to the Public Plaza in Poblacion. Before the winners were given their prizes, the entire public, together with the officials, students of Quirico National High School, municipal employees and the barangay health workers and marathoners performed an aerobics dance. At the end of teh closing program, I was already beaming with joy, grinning from ear to ear. It was my first big project as MHO and DTTB. And through the grace of God, it was successful, thanks to the support of the LGU and the entire Health Department. More pics her...
