A Very Long Absence
After a week of silence, I am back to blogging, which actually means I am now at home in Bacolod, enjoying the "abundant" supply of internet connection. 2 hours ago, I just arrived from Manila, fresh from the 34th CME of the Doctors to the Barrios held at Hotel Kimberly, Tagaytay. It was another encounter with friends and colleagues who share the same set of experiences, same set of ideals and same intensity of enthusiasm to serve as a DTTB. It was a long bus ride from the hotel to Magallenes, where a few of us were dropped off to catch a cab and head for the airport. I was very excited to go home. I missed my kids and I needed a good "home rest". A few minutes after I arrived home and was able to settle down quite a bit, I somehow had this feeling of still wanting to be with my fellow DTTBs. Spending time with them allows me to recharge my idealism and enthusiasm. But, we can't spend time just for CME's. We have to go back to the real world, where we can test our "new-found" boost of idealism and clash it with the rest of the realities we will be facing in our respective areas of assignment.
Life can be tough for a DTTB and somehow the acknowledgements are always rare. However, I am honored to have shared a moment with heroes; ordinary people who have risked their lives just to serve. It was an overwhelming experience to see the gallery exhibits of the graduating batch and hear stories about their experiences as a DTTB.
I still need to re-energize myself and I do miss my bed here at home. So, I will be blogging more about my experience tomorrow and will be posting more pictures as well. If only Kimberly Hotel had free internet connection, I could have successfully made a daily blog about my experience. It was an exercise in discipline nonetheless and it gave me an opportunity to spend enough quality time with batchmates and friends, people who have also contributed largely to who I am as a DTTB.
Congratulations to Batch 22.
