Since its inception, the Cinemanatomy Project has produced more than 20 amateur videos featuring concepts in anatomy/physiology. So far, three major winners have already been declared. The first one was the Memory Up Commercial (2009). The second one was the Zompees (2010). The latest was Battle Real (2011). Their videos are featured here. last Friday, October 7, 2011, my students and I launched their project on Community Health. Dubbed as CIVITAS: a photobiography, the intention of the gallery is to not only apply through photo-art all the lessons and exposures they had during the entire semester but also to bring to the other students and teachers the realities of society and community, highlighting the social determinants of health. The first semester is ending and for my Community health class (BS Bio 4th year students) I was trying to think of how to end the semester with a bang. After a few months of learning about community health and sanitation, even making field trips to do actual community profiling and learning about the dynamics of a local health system, I wanted to find out how my students were able to fully comprehend and integrate their learning. Yesterday, I proposed to the class a simple project: to take photographs of their community that would depict the various aspects or dimensions of Community Health. The class was enthusiastic about it and after a quick brainstorming, the class decided to open a gallery of their pictures on October 7, 2011. This morning, the Premed Society of the USLS organized and sponsored the public screening of the 2011 Cinemanatomy Entries. Present during the screening were also the invited judges/critics: Dr. Melvin Chico, Dr. Celna Tejare, Dr. Neil Maderazo, Frederic Ting and Nea Quiachon. Mrs. Lav Sombito, Department Chairperson of the Natural Sciences Department was also present along with other students from the University. I am proud of all my students for having submitted such quality works. There were 12 entries, however, 5 entries were not submitted on time thus only 7 entries were competing for the major prize (Over-all Top 3 Films). All entries nonetheless are competing for the minor prizes: Best Action Video, Best Reality Video, Best Drama Video, Best Thriller/Fantasy Video, Top Video For Each Class and Viewer's Choice (Online Voting).
